Randall Cobb 2013 Green Bay Packers Evaluation and Report Card
1) Introduction: The Packers best offensive play in the season’s final two games was to have Aaron Rodgers magically escape the grasp of an oncoming defender or two, scurry outside the pocket, and throw it Randall Cobb, who somehow managed to improvise, get behind the defense and catch Rodgers’ attention. Cobb was slowed by injuries at the end of 2012 and missed most of 2013 with a fractured leg. He’s a free agent after next season and will need to stay healthy if he wants to cash in.
2) Profile:
Randall Cobb
- Age: 23
- Born: 8/22/1990 in Maryville, TN
- Height: 5’10”
- Weight: 191
- College: Kentucky
- Rookie Year: 2011
- NFL Experience: 3 years
3) Expectations coming into the season: This year was going to be another progression in Cobb becoming one of the most dangerous weapons in the NFL. All was mostly going as planned until Cobb fractured his leg against Baltimore.
4) Player’s highlights/low-lights: Of course, Cobb’s catch against the Bears in the season finale tops the highlight list, not just for Cobb but for the Packers entire season. Receiving honorable mention is Cobb’s long run that woke up the Packers muddling offense against Detroit and a couple of nice catches on improvised plays in the playoffs.
5) Player’s contribution to the overall team success: Without Cobb, the Packers probably don’t make the playoffs. When he was on the field, Cobb’s speed from the slot and overall playmaking ability made a good offense much more dynamic.
6) Player’s contributions in the playoffs: Cobb only had two catches in the postseason, but they were two memorable catches. Too bad the Packers couldn’t punch it in the end zone after Cobb’s last big catch.
Season Report Card:
(B) Level of expectations met during the season
(A-) Contributions to team’s overall success.
(B) Contributions to team during the playoffs
Overall Grade: B
As I pray to the football Gods every night, can you imagine a 100% healthy offense that lines up with Lacy as the run consideration, Cobb in the slot, Jordy and JJ on the wings, and the newly drafted dynamic TE occupying the LB’s and Safety’s?
Make it so TT. You just might have the makings of an offense that can re-write the record books and make Packer nation turn a blind eye to the state of the defense.
” the makings of an offense that can re-write the record books”
Sounds like the Manning led Broncos…many a record but no…..Lombardi!!!
We have the offense….we need the defense.
I’d take my chances with that because while the D needs to, and may improve, that offense is already there.
Nice thought ,but it is balance that wins championships. DEFENSE DEFENSE
Cobb is a key to this offense. When he is healthy and on the field the defense must account for him and adjust to him. This opens lanes for Lacy and provides another excellent weapon for AR. Cobb is also a dangerous runner in the backfield or after the catch. TT receives a lot of criticism for many of his draft picks but not enough praise for picks like Cobb. I look forward to a healthy offense in 2014 with an improved OL. Healthy Cobb, Lacy, Rodgers, Jones, and Nelson and a new TE. Go Pack Go! Thanks, Since ’61
I praise TT for a majority of his picks on offense and Cobb is a perfect example. Now, if TT could just fix his mess on D, we would be winning Super Bowls
Cobb is a top priority to sign long term. Deference makers like him are a luxury and Cobb is a Packer type guy that you want on our team.
Yes, TT needs to get Cobb signed to a new contract. Same goes for Nelson.
Wow… Talk about hyperbole. Packers would have still made the playoffs w/o Cobb. His TD’s were pretty easy moves to get open vs Chicago. Very good player, but lets not go overboard.
Jumped out of the chair when TT drafted Cobb. Watched him make big play after big play for UK against the best in the SEC. Cobb was a pretty good college QB. Cobb has football smarts and field vision with elite talent. He’ll reach AR’s 100 catch prediction this season.
